As the Assemblymember of the 50th District representing Bell Gardens and Commerce, I want recognize schools from those cities that performed well on the latest Academic Performance Index (API) report. The report includes results from the California Standards Test taken by students in the spring of 2009.
Seven schools exceeded their improvement goal for the year – usually a five point increase – with a double-digit boost. Special recognition goes to Garfield Elementary, Rosewood Park Elementary, Suva Elementary, Suva Intermediate and Bell Gardens High School for raising their API scores by at least 25 points.
In fact, Suva Elementary’s 56-point increase was the second highest of any school in the 50th Assembly District. Bell Gardens Elementary and Bell Gardens Intermediate also raised their scores by double-digits.
I would like to congratulate the schools in the district that worked extremely hard in reaching and surpassing the academic goals that have been set for them. I also look forward to their continued success.
